Gideon, Part 1
Gideon is easily one of the most human and relatable characters in the whole Bible. When God comes knocking and calls him to a dangerous and seemingly impossible task, he doesn’t respond with robust faith, unwavering devotion, and flawless obedience, but he comes up with every excuse in the book not to go and asks for sign after sign after sign before finally even beginning to obey. How does God respond? And what can we learn for our own lives?
Reflection-
Where do you need to see a fresh vision of who you can be with God?
Where do you need to be reminded of the presence and power of God?
Where does your faith need to grow and increase?
Further Up, Further In-
Take time this week to ask God to remind you of times when you stepped out in faith to obey God and you felt His presence and help. Reflect on those moments. What did you feel called to do? How did you know God was with you? What did that moment of empowered obedience and blessing feel like? Then take time to ask God to show you His presence and help in moments where you felt abandoned, alone, and weak. Ask Him to show you where He was and what He was doing. Maybe you need to ask Him where He is and what He’s doing right now. Let Him minister to you. Read and meditate on the character and promises of God in Deuteronomy 31:6-8, Isaiah 43:1-2, and Romans 8:28-39, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you see and believe, and walk in light of these truths.
