Micah and the Levite

Preacher:
Passage: Judges 17-18

This is a story that unlike Gideon, Jephthah, and Samson is probably unfamiliar to most; about a guy who hires his own personal priest who then ditches him to help a tribe looking to use him as a good luck charm for their unsanctioned conquest. Like a lot of stuff in Judges, it’s weird, but it all boils down to this, does it matter how we worship God?

Reflection-

Who is speaking into your life?
Where is your worship syncretistic? Where are you expressing your faith in a way that is far more pagan, secular, than Christlike?

Further Up, Further In-
Take time this week to prayerfully sit with these questions before the Lord- Are you worshipping Jesus in the way He wants to be worshipped? Is He at the centre of your worship or are you? Is the Jesus you worship the Jesus revealed in scripture, or a Jesus made in your own image or the image of your culture? Is your worship pure or syncretistic? Are we worshipping Jesus or just doing what’s right in our own eyes? Like King David, pray this prayer: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24).
