Jesus and Nathanael

Preacher:
Passage: John 1:29-51

How well does anyone truly know you? How well do you actually want to be known? What is your greatest fear in being known?

Reflection-

What are some of the prejudices that keep you from “coming and seeing” Jesus? Are you willing to set those aside and let Jesus speak for Himself?

Where do you need Jesus to speak His love directly to you? What are the places where you feel no one could love you if they knew you?

Further Reading -

If you want to “come and see” Jesus, pray the seeker's prayer (next page) and read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and/orJohn, alone or with others.

For a beautiful dramatic rendering of this story, watch The Chosen, season 2, episode 2, “I Saw You.”
Further up, further in -

Think deeply about this Tim Keller quote: To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us. What feelings does this quote stir up in you? Do you believe that you are fully known and truly loved by God? If yes, what difference should this make in how you interact with God, yourself, and others? If not, what is keeping you from accepting this reality? Ask God to reveal to you just how completely He knows you and how passionately, unfailingly, and irrevocably He loves you nonetheless. Ask Him to speak His love directly to your heart and into the places in your life where you feel no one could love you if they knew you.
